Hi, my name is Bob. I am 11. I live in nj with my mom. I have a 1988 cub cadet 1204. My mom just got it for me. the pto wont stay on unless i hold it in the "on" position. i got a new pto switch yestereday from ebay. i put it on. it does the same thing. the pto will only stay on if i hold it in the "on" position. does anyone know how i could fix it ? there is lots of grass so i need to mow. thank you!

IF you are really desperate to cut grass(although it's raining today)a temp fix to operate pto till you get a new relay(expensive)is take a pc of duct tape/wide masking,string/rubber band or whatever it takes to hold sw in on position,this will bypass the probably bad holding contacts in relay for coil and allow pto to stay engage,any safety sw's upstream/downstream of pto sw will probably still function as designed,the exception being if/when you stop eng when mowing,to restart tractor you'll have to take off whatever is holding pto sw in on position to allow safety interlock contacts in pto sw to operate as they normally would for cranking/ign kill circuits in order to restart eng.
THIS IS NOT the safest/best way too operate pto & only for SHORT TERM use till you get a new relay,you must be EXTREMELY carefull when operating tractor this way or leave same alone till you get a new relay.
ALSO NOTE-I WILL NOT be held responsible for any personal injury/equipment damage if you choose to use pto sw in above manner till you get a new relay.
