John deere 316 with a 33 tiller

Hey folks. I picked up a 316 with a mower and a 33 tiller but the tractor is missing the rear pto shaft. I called my local dealer and was told that the 33 doesn't fit the 316. It mounted in seconds and everything lined up great so I don't know if the parts guy was on glue or what. I haven't had time to do a tear down to get a better idea. I have never seen the right shaft so not sure what I'm looking for. Anybody have any ideas? I need the bearing housing and all by the looks of it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

There are two model 316 tractors. If yours is the one with a single cylinder Kohler, it should fit.

Yes, the other fellow is CORRECT. 33 tiller WILL fit a early 316 with single cylinder Kohler engine. It will NOT fit the newer series 316 with the Onan twin.
