JD275 hydrostatic?

I have a JD 275. How do you change the oil in the hydrostatic tranny and what kind of oil do I use?

Thanks,
George

Good question, I've had a 275 since 1998 and haven't changed the fluid and no problems- but I only use it for mowing. One thing I was surprised to find years ago, there's a plastic fan on top of the transmission that you don't see unless you take off the right rear wheel. Around the fan had become packed with dried grass. Now I periodically do complete cleaning.

Hydro change is easy. The filter is in the bottom of the trans. The round black cover is threaded in. Take it out and it will drain the entire trans. Install a new filter from mother deere and 6qts (I think) of low viscosity hy-gard oil. Drive it around for 20 mins before the change and after. Check the oil level and go mow.

I have never seen a hydraulic fluid caused failure in any Deere machine long as i worked with them.Filter change is all that i would recommend and JD low-viscosity fluid to put back.Deere mechanic for over 15yrs.I don't remember if the GT line has an oil filter. If so change it out,top if off and proceed.

You can't chang the filter on a gt with out draining all the fluid. When you pull the filter out of the bottom, you get it all. Are you suggesting saving the oil and reusing it?

The boys at JD said not to change it unless it causes a problem. At $6 a quart and 6 quarts, I think I'll leave it alone until the oil stinks.

Thanks to all.
George

The service and opperators manual says change every 400 hours or 6 years. I would do it.
If your Deere dealer is charging $6 a qt, find a new dealer. I sell it for $4.12
