446 oil leak

I own a case 446 that I bought used several years ago. It's been a great tractor with few problems but it has just developed a major oil leak in the engine just below the oil filter. It's not the filter itself but I can't see just where the oil is coming from. Any suggestions?

If it is really below, and very near the filter, it is probably the filter adapter that is bolted to the block. I've seen them crack and/or the bolts loosen. If it's the latter, just tightening them may work, or it may need a gasket.
