Which Mower?

Hey guys looking to buy a new riding mower for my landscaped 1/2 acre lot in Southern Ontario Canada. I know I should be push mowing but I like toys lol. Anyways i'm not looking to break the bank on something i'm only really using 6-7 months a year so ideally i'm looking at a machine under $2000. I really dont know whats decent anymore seeing as though MTD makes most of the machines and I've heard nothing but bad things about the new JD's. Should I be looking for a few year old JD? I dont need big power as its a fairly level lot looking for reliability more than anything. Any thoughts and opinions are welcome thanks in advance

Look at Simplicity, or Snapper, made by Simplicity
or Toro. John Deere???you'll "PAY" for the green
paint..they may make special "Cheap" models for
big box stores, fromwhat I've heard !

The Big Box John Deeres, don't remember all the numbers, think they are D series, are assembled in Tennesse and are priced to compete with the MTD tractors. Some people seem to like them and had a couple of neighbors who owned one and they traded up to the heavier series. Have never realy looked them over. Only one I have looked at much was the Husquavarna (SP) while I was waiting for tires at our local Fleet Farm. If I was looking for a smaller unit I would consider the Simplicity Broadmoor. Heavier duty than the Regent.

If you only have a 1/2 acre to mow and that is all your going to use it for is mowing any riding lawn more will last a long time with good maintance .

I would look at the mid priced craftsman , made by mtd same as cub cadet.and others, with proper maintenance will last a long time on a small yard like that. I have an 800series 18 hp 46 in cut thats 11 yrs old on 1.7 acres still going strong, have rebuit the deck once and probably will again in a couple of seasons.
