I was looking to buy a good used commercial grade zero turn mower I have about 10-15 acers to cut about every 10 days give or take a little. I dont have the money to go out and buy new from the dealer so mine would come from somewhere like craigslist or ebay. I have a husqvarna gth 54/26 residential I have ran it for a year and have had great succuess it is just slow on all that land. I was hoping that someone out there could give me a good idea of what a good mower would be to handle this Thans

That sounds like a lot of land to mow with a
lawn mower.
A used comerical zero turn most likley has a lot of hours of use on it, unless you can find one with low hours.
Wouldn't you be better off getting a small tractor?

I'd buy nothing but a Dixie chopper new, they go over 15mph and will cut the grass fast while riding nice, I think there 60 inch is rated for 8 acres a hour if I remember right, so two hours you'd be done, new ones will be spendy, but a used one. Won't be terrible. Once you get one, you won't get another brand I guarantee it. There the worlds fastest mower.

start looking on CL. Dixie Chopper, gravely, toro, exmark, ferris, scag, great dane, wright, lesco, jd, yazoo, bob cat, ransomes, hustler, jacobson, are just a few off the top of my head. Things to look out for is new components, in the hyd side, if a pump or a motor is new, on one side, only, then it might have been patched up to sell. Caveat emptor!

The Dixie chopper has the best zero turn, there the only one who has suspension, the have forks like a motorcycle, and no one else has that, every other brand rides rough, and the Dixie chopper is 100% made in the USA including all there parts, so you get real quality not that china crap.not to mention, you only have to worry about the deck and rim paint, as the rest is stainless steel, every other mower will look faded and scratched up while this will still shine.and they have the deepest deck in the industry, so minimal balling in wet tall grass. And them and John Deere will be the only one to hold there money somewhat together and not fall apart totally like the others.

Some Ferris mowers also have frame suspension.
All makes that I know of offer s suspension seat and an extra cost item.

The biggest problem with buying a used commercial mower is that they are usually pretty much used up before they are sold.

Yeah, I think all of our newer mowers have a spring seat, and a ferris????? What is that generic, might be a little more for the Dixie chopper, but nice you have it you won't go back. There more expensive for a reason. You get what you pay for.
Here's the specs I found, probebly bigger than you need but, and there the only one who offers the rod handle to move your grass deflector while still sitting, you can even do it on the go.

I have owned a Dixon which was a good machine, now i have a Country Clipper. It is a real great machine. No problems accept maintenance in 4 years mowing 5 1/2 acres weekly. Both are zero turns.

My brother does a lot of commercial mowing. He uses EXmark mowers. Seems to be a lot of mower for the buck. I would run from a Dixie Chopper for the kind of mowing you are doing. They are a lightly built mower. You do not need a suppencion if you keep your tires inflated correctly They are supposed to be soft and float over the small bumps.

JD and Kabota make some good front mowers but they are going to be high priced even used.

ONE model to stay away from is the JD 820. The changed the hydros and they took too much power from the deck. They where a sorry mower to use in any kind of hills. Also the JD Z 425 small one is a CHEAP box story mower. It would not last for your use.

If you really want to get done fast look for a JD WAM(wide area mower) 1600 they have three decks one in the middle and two wings. I have seen guys mow ten acres an hour with them. Toro makes one like them.

Exmark site.

Dixie chopper is built light?? It's way heavier then our 737 Deere we have, and I know there a better mower than a ex mark, that's pretty much like buying a mower from bomgars, and before I got anything rather than a Dixie chopper, I'd probebly get a hustler or a Deere. Will gaurentee the Dixie chopper is one of the heaviest mowers built.

I mow two 5 acrw patches plus more with a 60 inch dixon. I would simply go to a 72 inch dixon or husqvarna and you will be fine. The dixie chopper are alright also just have higher center of gravity. far as there components same as all the rest use. its just the color and style seat that different. most all of the working guts can all be switched between brands. look for dealer support and parts. Country clipper (shivers) units. Look into the dixon DX 1oo or 2oo series tough units
