Briggs Stratton Intek V-Twin cylinder OHV engine

I have a B&S 24 hp Intek 2 cylinder OHV engine that started to backfire. When checking the engine I found the intake pushrod bent and the exhaust pushrod was gone. Also the valve guide on the exhaust valve appears to be comming out of the head.

Questions, Did the pushrod go into the engine? Where? Is disassembly of engine necessary to get it out?

About the valve guide. How to repair so it will stay in the head? Is a new head the only way to fix the valve guide problem?

Thanks in advance for all your responses, ideas, and wisdom. Bud

Yes, the pushrod went through the oil hole and is now in the crankcase. you will probably have to open it up to get it out and it is probably bent as well.
The best way to fix the valve guide in the head is to replace it.

You have an overheating problem too.
Either the fins on the block and head were stopped up the fins are gone off the flywheel fan, or the engine was running too lean and a carb. cleaning is in order.

I"m finding this same problem. The steel push rod was in the bottom of the engine when it was unbolted. I have found the problem with this to be the exhaust valve guide to be the culprit. I have read about a couple fixes. Locktite, JB Weld, or staking the area around the guide. Which method has worked the best?
