JD 425 All Wheel Steer - Will snow blade work OK on this?

Thinking ahead for next winter. I've got a 425 w/All Wheel Steer. I'm looking for opinions on how well a snow blade will work on this. I know you've gotta get the quick hitch. What else will I need? I'm pretty sure I'll need wheel weights and probably chains. I do have a blacktop drive, will the chains mark up the drive or is there another acceptable way to get traction? I currently only have turf tires. Looking at the rear tires, it doesn't look like there is a lot of clearance around them. Do you need to add something to make those wheels stick out further?

Also , will a 54" blade work OK or will a 48" be better?

Thanks

With your all wheel steer you'll need a set of wheel spacers for frame to tire chain clearance. The 54" blade will work best, especially if you angle it, it'll still be wider than the tractor.

Look for a set of rubber chains. They won"t mark up the driveway. Regular chain will leave marks and you need a bunch of weight if you have a lot of wet snow and don"t want to spin.

Look at the weekendfreedommachines website for information. The AWS is an odd creature but a couple guys have told you about wheel spacers. You can probably get a frame squeezer type adapter and use the older (cheaper) front blade instead of a quick hitch and blade on it.

Thanks for the good ideas so far. Is that bottom edge of the blade replaceable, I'm guessing, if I find one that's rough?

Also, Steve mentioned the older style blade that might fit. Would that still have the 4-way left-right, up and down feature?

The other guys have it nail as far as spacers and such. To use the older blades off of the JD 300 series all you have to do is widen the mount. The latch is the same distance top to bottom but the frame is about 1 inch too narrow. Cut the latch plates off the old blade and put steel flat stock behind them and re-weld them. I think 1/2 inch on each side is what it takes. I have done several but it was 5 year ago or more. Then you just need longer hydraulic hoses to reach the valve under the foot pad.
