Charging unit on a Kohler engine

What charges the battery on a machine with a Kohler engine. I don't have the mower here so can't look at it. Is it a starter-generator set up or something else. Thanks for any help I can get.

It could be a starter/generator or it could be an under flywheel alternator.Depends on year and machine.

If it has a starter / generator the generator charges the battery via a Delco voltage regulator, if it has a gear starter the is a alternator built in under the the flywheel and a solid state voltage regulator mount on the tractor.

Your S/G does the engine starting and the battery charging. You can check what your charging voltage is by using a volt meter set on dc volts setting the probes on your battery terminals. Run the engine at 1/2 throttle or better should see 14.0 to 14.5 volts on your meter. I have a Wards tractor that has the Delco S/G. I bought it new in 1971. Hal
