My tractor was running fine and only used a small amount of oil. I had to add half-quart after mowing my 2 acres.

All of a sudden it started smoking and I have to add a quart for every tank of gas. (Approx 45 minutes.)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would say it is time for an engine overhaul. The Kohlers are one tough engine, and can be rebuilt many times. I know of some that have over 6000 hours on them.

That would be my guess. If the vent is clear I'd quit using it until you get the engine repaired. Broken rings can really mess up the cylinder walls. The K301 is really easy to overhaul, the hardest part I've run into with them is getting the PTO clutch off.
