Was throwing snow the other night, and the engine started running on only one cylinder. I am guessing that it could be either the ignition coil or a valve got a hole in it. Hopefully will get to check it out this weekend. but have other repair work to do on other things and the 3 1/2 year old granddaughter will be here for the duration. Any other ideas, if the easy ones don't pan out?
Thanks, Roy

I bought a Cub Cadet 1711 a couple years ago that had a KT17 Hydro in it . The first time i used it to mow my yard (which has banks in it) the engine blew sky hi . The inside of the engine is trashed . By asking a lot of questions 7 studying info off Google , I learned that Cub Cadet engineering dept made a very bad mistake in their engine designs . They used an oil slinger system instead of an oil pump & filtering system . The even sent out warnings to dealers to advise owners not to run them on hilly areas because the oil wouldn't get to the crank, rods & bearing causing major damage . The guy that sold it to me didn't tell me anything at all & chucled when I called & told him about it . So, I hope you don't experience the same issue . God bless , Ken

ACTUALLY, that engine HAS an oil pump with a pickup screen. The main crankshaft bearings and hollow CAMSHAFT are pressure-lubed. The camshaft sits above the crankshaft. The cam is hollow and has oil holes in it that spray oil on the connecting rod bearings from above!

The Series 1 engines were/are slinger lubed, the Series11 were/are pressure lubed.
Not 100% reliabale because of owner changes, but the air filter cover is marked as to whether Series 1 or 11.
I have a Series 11 that was overhauled at 2200 hours and has 600 hours on the rebuild.

I don't trust the air cleaner, I check the engine spec number. The Series I spec number is 24193 and the series II is 24302.

Thanks for the info. I'm picking up a 782 tommorrow, belive it's a series 1 but will check. Got it for a good price including a 44 inch deck, 3 pt hitch, and one bottom plow.

I found out this weekend that one spark plug electrode was bent to only about .005" gap.I would guess that a piece of carbon came loose and banged into the plug and closed the gap.
Thought that all who offered suggestions would like to know what happened
Thanks, Roy
