starter is real draggy, cleaned all connections, battery, changed start generator jumped straight across from bat to starter same thing. could this be a compression problem? thanks in advance.

Maybe the starter/generator needs rebuilding.
When they are in good condition they still tend to turn slower than a regular starter.

I'm guessing it has a starter/generator, is that correct?

If the valves are too far out of adjustment the compression release does not work.

Check your battery electrolyte using a hydrometer. You may have a weak cell. I use a full size car battery on my Wards tractor with a Delco S/G. Hal

have changed out the battery & starter generator, nothing seems to help that is when i started to think about the compression release.

There's also a thin spring for the compresiion release on the cam that can break.
