Anyone have some advice on a clutch problem (will not disengage to shift)? Took cluthch apart, cleaned, new main spring...all looked good. Ran before I restored but cannot get the clutch to disengage...just 'grinds' the top of gears...adjustment? Or is the throwout bearing not 'throwing out' like it should? It is a cub cadet 1961 7hp 'original'...nice machine just can't get it in gear!

if the driveshaft had no groove in it that the bearing could get hung up on check to see if the pinion is being pushed back into the reduction case, when you push the pedal down the driveshaft is movin back instead of compressing thge spring.if thats the problem a od snapring is at fault...

My Cub Cadet original is starting to act up, I had the clutch rebuilt several years ago, and if I don't use is very much the clutch will stick. When they get a little wear they will stick. To get it to realese I start it in gear and push the clutch in and the brake on it will release.

snap ring where? The housing on the throw out bearing moves freely and the bearing itself seems to stay in one place...I thought the bearing moves to the front of the shaft and goes back when you step on the clutch. Doesn't the housing (with grease zerk) go forward when in gear and go back (with bearing) when the clutch is depressed?
