Sorry. I did not get the photo uploaded on the last post:

I have this Brinly planter that was given to me. I cannot find the model number on it. The front plow sweep is mounted different than most I have seen. It is missing the hitch plates only has one seed plate. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like it needs a lot of help. I don't know the model # ; I would be interested in purchasing it from you. Where are you located?

It does look rough. The fertilizer hopper may never work again but the seed operation seems to work fine. I am not interesting in selling it. It was given to me by a family member.

I had a bracket made for my moldboard plow similar to the one on your planter so it would be easier to install on my sleeve hitch. Your bracket is made from heavier metal. I drilled and tapped the sleeve hitch, but that was pain when installing or removing the plow bracket. Hal

I have been thinking about getting it welded as one piece if I can't reproduce the original configuration. Thanks.

That is, IMO, a Brinly KK-520 Vegetable Planter with Fertilizer Canister but I could be wrong.

Tthe two canisters appear to be mounted incorrectly. The tall one should be directly above the wheel and it should have feed plate mounted on the opposite side shown in your photo that drops down to a sort of coulter disc mounted on a bracket bolted to the side of the frame. The plow sweep seems to be incorrect for the KK-520 as it used what they called a "depth gauge". .

There were 5 seed plates included with that planter along with 3 "distance sprockets" that determined how far apart the seeds were planted. There were also 11 other seed plates available as optional equipment. If you send an e-mail to Judy at Brinly, she will provide you with 2 PDF's of the original Parts Manual for this planter.

For all those reading this thread, I have found the people at Brinly to be exceptionally helpful and I have nothing but praise for them and this amazing company.

Thanks for that information. I have e emailed contact for Brinly. When I spoke to them on the phone yesterday, they were not helpful and stated that they did not support planters anymore.

When I first got this planter, there was a flexible seed tube behind the front sweep. As you noticed, it is inconsistent with other planters.

Those were made by cole-powell co. The company is still in business, name has changed, I think, in GA, google around, lots of farm equipment dealers sell parts, Plates run around $20 average, EBAY lists several, most of the time, but it's cheaper through a dealer, IMHO.

The last time I talked to the Cole folks they said they weren't making anymore of the older style plates and only going to sell off of the stock they now have. Also there are several variations of the Brinly/Cole planter plates and they will not interchange.

Yes, there are 2 (I think) types of Cole/Powell plates, the smaller ID one, and the lagger ID one, for the big Cole vegetable planters. The brinley takes 3" center hole plates. Might be getting scarce, now, but if there is a demand, you could replicate them in plastic.

I know of 3 different sizes in the Brinly planters the first ones used a square drive in the center and then the two different centers. Is someone making Brinly plates in plastic? I've never seen any.I did buy out an EX Brinly dealer in a vegetable growing area and got some nice unique plates around 200 of them. There were according to the Brinly manuals I have 126 different plate planting variations made for those planters.

For the record, I no of no one currently making plastic ones. What I meant, is that these planters will always have a value, hence there will always be a market for plates. Making these plates in plastic, would not be hard to do, is what I am saying.

hi there i have a chance to buy a couple of one row brinly seeders with fertilizer spreaders would u be interested in selling a few of the plates p.s.not just sure of the makes thanks

Probably someone sooner or later will come up the plastic plates I guess.I adapted a John Deere 71 planter to Cat 0 3pt and like it better planting with a garden tractor than the Brinly Planter plus JD plates are everywhere but not cheap even the plastic ones.

Thats very very high in my opinion. The plates that are most popular like something to plant sweet corn can get a pretty high price.I've bought a bunch for far less than the $149 for sure
but there are alot of planters without plates or with only one plate around these days.

That is high priced for EBAY! Search cole planter plates, the ones you want will have a 3" center hole, (3-3/8 at the drive tangs) and a part number of OR XXX. XXX is the part number, # of seed per wheel, OR means right hand drive. They made a version of this planter, for small farmall tractors, that was a twin row, that used left and right hand drives. Google Covington, in Georgia, they bought out cole-powell. There are cole plates on EBAY for $25 or thereabouts.

That is a Brinly KK-305 planter. The hoppers are in the correct location, but the first shoe is an add-on. There should be a funnel-like fertilizer shoot attached to the right hand side of the frame, just ahead of the fertilizer hopper. In my opinion your planter doesn't look rough. Maybe the paint isn't pristine, but the whole thing is serviceable from my point of view - at least it hasn't been consumed by rust like so many have.

If you google Brinly KK-305 there are several sites with links to the planter's manual as well as the fertilizer attachment's manual.

The fertilizer hopper on my planter is a bit of a basket case. I was wondering if you'd be willing to take a photo or two of where and how the two fertilizer scrapers are attached to the unit.

Thanks!
Nick
