Gravely Tractor starter

Hi, my Gravely Tractor starter doesn"t work. Can anyone tell me where to locate a good one. I went to NAPA to get a new one but they can"t find a replacement without correct information. Thank you.

Hi Ray,
I replaced the parts several years ago with a kit, and it seemed to work for awhile. I took one to a repairman that works only on starters and he pulled it apart and won"t repair it said it was to bad. If I had a lathe I would have rebuilt it myself. If there was a better one out there I would like to know. Also there isn"t any spark so will have to go through the mag. Thanks.

can you tell us what make,model engine you have?
over the years gravely used many different engines.
also the model of the tractor.

FarmallBob, the original starters for all Gravely T-head engines were Delco Remy. I once heard you can take the guts out of a regular DR starter (like a Farmall) and do a transplant into your Gravely starter. I believe a few starters had the same body, but you would reuse the front flange mount and gear drive that the Gravely needed.

But I haven't done that transplant business to know if it works or not. All of the Gravely starters I have played with were not hopelessly gone, and were able to be rebuilt by a starter shop.

www.gravelyparts.com is Richard's Gravely. He used to have rebuilt/new starters available.

Is the Delco tag still on your starter? Would NAPA be able to match you a starter with that information?

Hi Ben, It is a Delco Remy USA 1108311-3A-17 stamped on the body of the starter. It came off a Gravely Tractor I purchased and the man started it by turning the starter with his hand to a different location. It came off an L8 Gravely 1966. Thank you for your help.
