MTD Huskey Score For $25.00

Hi, and Happy New Year To all,

Just wanted to post and see what everyone thought of my find this past weekend . It's a 2003 - 2004 Huskey by MTD . It has 03 as the first two letters on the code number on engine . It is a 46 inch cut garden tractor with cruise control ,variable speed on the pedal ( has the foot control pedal like the hydrostatics ,but pedal will only go on direction ), forward high and forward low and reverse as well as netrual on the lever under the seat . It has three blades on the deck. It has the big back wheel that bolt on with 4 lug bolts . It has a 23 HP Briggs and Stratton OHV twin cylinder engine. The swivel bracket that tighten the deck to engine came loose from the body and fell on the deck and messed up the deck to engine belt in the process which was the reason it was parked . Before a tie rod had broken and was replaced with on wheel out of alighnment whch ruined a tired , but it wouldn't hurt to replace both front tires . Needs carb cleaned but I've had it running with choke pulled all the way out ,needs top of motor took off to clean out mouse nest ,as well as oil change and basic service job , brakes adjusted and a new battery some other TLC . Can't believe my luck that I paid only $25.00 for it as the guy bought it for $2000.00. I bought it from the original buyer .Did I finally do good or what . Any pros or cons with this model ? It's a model 808H pedal drive tractor . I even have the manual for it .

Thanks,
Whizkid

"Pedal drive" if I recall right is a modification to the tried and true MTD variable pulley drive 6-7spd system.Instead of the spd lever selecting and"locking"(1-7)in as groundspeed, the pedal operates the variable pulley to provide a constantly variable speed similar to a hydro and can be locked in at any speed with the "cruise control"knob,
which releases via the brake pedal.
A lot simpler and cheaper than a hydro.
In effect about any MTD "Transmatic" can be driven the same way,by setting a top speed(1-7) and using the clutch/brake to gear down for heavy cutting/rough going.
