Heres a tip on kohler engines. Sometimes with a kohler bad ignition points will mock carb problems. Make sure your points and condensor are good! Dave

My 12HP Tecumseh started doing that, the spark plug was having a heat failure. New plug fixed it.

back fire is a lean broblem. Had a 214 do that to me over the summer. Found a piece of rubber from the fuel line on the back side of the fuel seat. ended up putting a screen in the fuel elbow at the carb. Seems simple but an easy miss

That is what I taught but never hurts to check if any one has had the same problem plus I had ran it out of gas right after rebuilding the carb so mite have got a little dirt out of bottom of tank
