Brinly Plow Mounting?

Just bought a Brinly moldboard plow at a sale today. How do I put this on my John Deere 317? It does not have a 3pt hitch.

Brinly ploughs were sold in sleeve hitch style or CAT 0 three point hitch style. Either way, you have to purchase and install the appropriate Deere hitch onto your 317 in order to use the plough. Check with your local Deere dealer. Perhaps he has a good used hitch he can sell you.

Or you can make a sleeve hitch, to to tuff, find a picture of one that has a plow on it or a similar model and building it would be pretty easy

I have the lower arm for a sleeve hitch that will fit your John Deere.
Its the horse shoe looking bar that the plow fits into.
The rest of the mechanism you can find at John Deere or on Craigslist or Ebay, etc.

I had to make this frame so the plow off an old Viking walk behind tractor could be used on my Wards tractor that has the sleeve hitch. It's mounted on the tractor with one pin and two 3/8-nf capscrews that came with the plow made in 1936. I bought the Viking in 1960. Hal

Hal,
I have seen you set up several times .. first I noticed that the arch or beam just sets in that "U" bracket, with possible side play. how does that work for correct trailing ? does it seem to follow just inside rear tire ?

That side play was probably needed on the old walk behind Viking garden tractor so you could steer some. Since I try to plow in a straight
line with the right tires in the furrow I have no problems plowing. The plow and bracket are quite heavy, but my hydraulics will lift them. Hal

It just got to get me thinking, as brindly plows have an adjustment at the Yoke,/clevis that holds the plow in line. What you say makes sense for a walk behind.
Must have a longer land side ( I guess you'd call it ??)to keep straight in the furrow.

Here's a picture of the plow used by the StandardTwin walk behind tractor. That bracket you're referring to actually lifts the plow when the handles are raised. The Viking was similar.
Items number 6 and 7 and that bracket is made somewhat different than used by the Viking. I still have an extra plow point. The framework I made for the Wards tractor was copied from the
Viking handlebars and drawbar by making templates
from white cardboard. The hardest part was bending the metal so each piece had the same angle as the handles. Hal
