wizard mower

A friend gave me his old mower. It says Wizard-plus on the hood. has a 50 inch deck,22hp kohler command series engine and hydrostatic drive. Is it an MTD?Any good?

Wizard was a brand of Western Auto, I have no idea who built your mower though.

Its hard to say for sure with out model numbers but it could be a AYP (American Yard Products) same as many Craftsman, Husqvarna, Poulan products.. For the most part AYP are very good machines. Some of the older Wizards may have been built by MTD.

Wizard was a brand name of Western Auto stores.
I've got Wizard 1/2 drive sockets, Wizard wrench's. As a boy, we had a Wizard push mower,
with a Clinton engine, Wizard refrigerator, and
my dad would buy car parts from Western Auto,
Valves, Rings, Fuel pumps, carbs, gasket sets,
and rebuilt 3 speed transmissions for 53 chev.
