Kind of hard for them to be used in WW2, they didn't start building them until 1946.
(Personal opinion - no data to support) I doubt the Army Air Corps/Airforce was buying new tugs shortly after WW2, they had so much "stuff" left over from the war that huge amounts of support equipment were being sold cheap as surplus during the intial RIF that kept going on until Korea started. New jets got the money while everything else made do. It took Korea for congress figured out that we might still have to fight.
