Have you contacted Honda? I used to ride Honda motorcycles and I had a 1976 750cc that I bought new that had some electrical and transmission issues. Local dealer was great but we ended up having to get the factory rep involved. I talked to both the local guys as well as the folks in California and together they worked to solve the problems. It was a very positive experience and went a long way to to convince me that they will stand behind what they sell. Since that time I have owned several Honda bikes,snowthrower, and my wife's new CRV that she loves. You have nothing to lose by contacting them and asking them what their thoughts are on this. You are certainly not the only guy with the issue and you may be able to help others. Your posting with the filter description is very well done!
