This is a hydraulic system you are talking about? The oil they recommended 20-40 and was that a hydraulic oil or motor oil? There is a 20-40 motor oil and its DELO 710 LE. If it takes hydraulic oil I would use Lucas universal hydraulic fluid. Your best bet would be to call your Ingersoll Rand dealer and see what oils will work. They sometimes can give you several choices of oil to use. |

| | This tractor has nothing to do with Ingersoll-Rand. 15W40, 20W40 and 20W50 are all MOTOR OILS. Hydraulic fluids are not multi-grade. These tractors require motor oil in their hydraulic system ONLY. That is what has been specified in the Owner's Manuals since 1963 and is still specified today. |

| Ok Tom but if he doesn't have a dealer he can get 20-40 motor oil from a Chevron dealer has it. Its DELO 710 LE which is a 20-40 motor oil. |

| | 710 LE is specified for marine diesel and railroad diesel applications. The question then becomes ... How readily available is this product? It is not essential that he use 20W40. Either 15W40 or 20W50 or even straight 30 weight are all acceptable substitutions are are far easier to find at Walmart or an auto parts store. Walmart has been known to carry Shell's Rotella T in 15W40 for many years. The issue here is that the OP should be using motor oil and not some hydraulic fluid that would create problems for him. Choosing an easy to find motor oil such as Rotella and for a reasonable cost, makes perfect sense to me and to many owners of Colt, Case and Ingersoll GT's. |
