Mike Westerlund 08-08-2012 17:26:38 75.197.160.250 Report to Moderator	Hydro Help. ANYONE. I have a 1989 2072 that now runs great. Worked out all the issues with motor now Hydro is now the problem. When the Hydro fluid (and tractor) warms up the Hydro gets weak and can not pull hills. Even small hills. Hydro lever becomes hard to push. At the same time the power steering gets very hard. It feels like a pressure drop or restriction. On steep it will stop moving. Same in reverse or forward. Trunion spring replaced and linkage looks OK. Fluid, filter changed. Cub factory hydro filter being used. Any ides? Thanks [Reply]   [No Email]

Could the check valves cause the problem? What do they do and how can I trouble shoot. Everything is fine until warm up. Just seems odd the power steering would suffer as well. Pulled the valve cone (looks good); no shim pack was in hole so eithor; a.someone else been here before in attempt to get pressure right. b.it did not need it to get pressure due to spring size. c.it was not put in when built and/or after a service. Any thoughts? Does this relief require shims? I have not tested pressure or spring specs. it seems this is a step I need to take but will now need to get guage. Again thanks for any insight. Any suggestions on how to get shims and valve out of hole? Magnet maybe? The plug and spring look ok but I obviously want to pull valve/shims and inspect seat, etc. Am I correct in theory that if plug does not seat correctly, pressure will not build and bypass causes drop in pressure? So more shims; more pressure? Also, could a bad implement relief (600#) cause the same failure. Again thanks. This machine has come such a long way. If this gets solved its a keeper for sure. Can put small flat washers between cap and spring. Spring may have been swapped for the lift side spring by mistake. I think you can tell by the coil count. Would help to put a pressure gauge--don't recall pressure limits. [Reply]  [No Email]

Good news is all the feedback supports what i have done to date. Next step is to get new relief spring, shim if required and try to build some pressure (which is obviously lacking). Anyone have a good method to clean/clear the valve seat for the valve cone going in from the side? I plan on making sure the cone is seating when i put new spring in. While all looks clean and OK with valve I can not be sure it is tight into housing and able to build pressure. If this works I will post results for others to benefit from. Have not put a gauge on test port to see whats happening but problem still persists. Warms up, hydro gets weak, power steering gets hard, hydro lever has resistance and cant push forward..level ground operates OK but never to what cold start was for power. Never stops moving and can cut for hours with limited uphill work. Could check valves be causing this? What do the two checks do and how can I tell if these are bad? as always thanks for feedback.
