Massey Ferguson MF10

Does anyone know what new motors can be used to replace the Tecumseh engine in an MF10. I would love to get a little diesel engine in there, but a new gasoline engine would be ok too. It is a great little tractor, but needs the engine replaced. More horsepower would be cool too, but not necessary. I"d even go down in horsepower if needed. I have an MF135 and an MF285 that does most of my work on the farm and garden. I mostly just mow with this little guy.

Get the model & spec number off your Tecumseh engine and call smallenginewarehouse for a replacement engine. I bought a 10hp B&S from them in 2006 for my Troy Bilt tiller. I sold the Tecumseh engine for $65.00. I only paid $100 for the tiller. It needed tines and seals under the tine holders. The engine has electric start too. Hal

If you can't locate a replacement eng(briggs, kohler)that you can fit/shoehorn in and eng a smoker due to ring/cyl wear consider rebuilding eng,if you decide to rebuild, disassemble eng & check/measure crank rod journal,if crank journal within specs check rod bearing & see if within specs,if not buy a new rod(oem/aftermarket)

Take the block to a machine shop that does eng boreing, have them check wear run out in cyl bore,IF greater than .020" buy a std size piston set(oem/aftermarket)for an HH120 eng(12hp)and have block bored for new piston set,I've done this with two HH100 eng as the cyl bore was over .020" out of round, the .030"/.040" piston sets have been nla for almost 10 yrs,if you need a new rod don't buy same till piston set/rebore resolved, depending on parts needed, where you buy parts & cost of rebore & gasket set cost could run $150-$300 to rebuild.

Another issue might be alt for charging battery, many eng today only have a single wire output from alt & you have to buy a new regulator or regulator is mounted on eng & you have to disconnect old reg & connect alt output to wire that connected to center pin on old rectifer/regulator,most charging systems on todays eng will not work with existing reg.

Goto ebay & search item# 251114813278(short block),you'll have to use your old starter,alt stator,flywheel,carb,muffler & pulleys on eng,also ask seller if shaft 1" or 1 1/8".

I'd put in a Kohler 12 HP, it will fit. Get one with the flat pan like Wheelhorse have. The HH100 was a great engine but the ignition module is getting hard to find if you have that one.
These are one of the best ever built tractors, I've had several, now only two.
