i have a 2 cyl B&S 20 hp intek twin ohv motor on my husky riding lawn mower. about 12 years old but dont mow very often or lotta space has good compression has been stalling under load of cutter. replaced one spindle with worn bearing on cutter, new belt . removed and cleaned nikki carb. still doing it. need to mow real bad. will start run and travel ok but when engage cutter stalls after 30 sec or minute. would cut about 20 feet then stall. wouldnt start after stall without little gas down intake. after cleaned carb starts better after stall without air cleaner. stalls under load faster with air filter in place. little solenoid at bottom of bowl works on bench test. filling tank up full didnt help any. afte stalls some smoke comes up out of intake when crank with starter. stalls faster at lower accelerator position than higher (mo revs) position. going to town to get little mower gas filter

have reached end of my expertise. HELP

thank in advance for for your interest

Re: bs stalls under load -was the solenoid in reply to kouvakis, 07-18-2012 13:45:24
thanks guys, found out what was wrong. the carb bowl solenoid that lets fuel into some where was no getting power when ignition on. jumped from battery positive terminal to white lead into solenoid and runs just fine WUUUUUUUUUUU WHOOOOOO.!!!!!!

Now all a need to know is does the solenoid get power from the muLti switch kill system or directly from ignition switch or other arrangement. i guess i could spend hours working it out but would appreciate anybodys experience or hints. thanks mb , az etc.

The ignition switch controls the fuel shut-off solenoid. Use aligator clips until you are able to find and solve the problem.

It might be the plug in the back of the switch is corroded. Clean and try again. Replace if they are rotted.

I am not sure which terminal is for the fuel shut-off. If I were to guess, I would guess it is marked "ACCY" for accessory.

shot in the dark here, but I just had something similar happen to me on mine, I replaced the belts, and spindles went to mow and as you stated drove fine, but start mowing with it and no power and almost dies, got to looking at it, mice got onto it, completely covered the entire engine under the shroud with a nest, cleaned it all out and not a problem with it since!
