i have this ariens zero turn that has a 17hp - ohv intek b&s engine thar has me completey baffeled. it will run with choke about 2/3 closed. i have disamabled the carb many times and cleaned it cant find any problems other than the plastic float might need to be adjusted. i can mist a little starting fluid without any choke and that helps a lot. can one grind a little off the flat part of the needle and raise the level of fuel in the float boal to assist in more fuel. any thoughts, words of wisdom welcome. even critisim

For Pete's sake---seek professional help! All i can see happening from doing the stupid things you have suggested, is a LOT of money being flushed down a rat hole, with nothing to show for the things you are contemplating!!

If carb has fuel shutoff sol on bottom of bowl, confirm you have 12v to same when ign sw in on/run position,if you do,remove sol from carb & reconnect, check that plunger retracting into sol body, plunger may be frozen/sticking or coil bad,due to fact eng runs with starting fluid, this tells you there's a restriction in fuel delivery to carb or a restriction in carb due to sticking/bad sol, dirt in main jet/internal passages or eng sucking air due to bad/damaged gaskets at carb/carb adapter.

If it is a brass seat and a rubber needle tip, there is nothing to check. The float should be parallel to the bowl gasket base. If there is a rubber seat and solid aluminum needle, make sure rubber seat is bottomed out in the bore with a drill bit shank.

Fuel goes from gas tank to fuel pump to carb. Do NOT blow air thru the fuel pump. Blow air back wards thru the other lines. If gas had water, water will clog a paper fuel filter.

Check the fuel shut off solenoid as Joe suggested. Make sure the rubber tip isn't falling apart and the plunger is moving the 1/4" or so. Maybe unplug and plug the connection to the ignition switch a few times to get a better contact.

Make sure the vent hole for the carb is clear. Make sure fuel pump is pumping fuel to the carb. Be careful with sparks.

Most likely you need a fuel pump rebuild kit.

I had a Kawasaki engine on my JD do this. There were bug wings or something before the needle seat and it took two times to see it and clear it out. Might have been fabric from the original fuel lines.

It's a plan our government has save the environment and stimulate our economy. Step one pass laws that require all small engines to meet unrealistic emission standards and that they can't have adjustments that would allow the engine to be adjusted in such a way to increase emissions. Step II change the fuel, mandate something like alcohol be added to the fuel to corrode and rot away the fuel systems of the old equipment and cause the newer equipment to be too lean to run Step III tax the wealthy that make all the equipment that now needs to be replaced because it's not compatible with current fuels.

Run a can of Seafoam through it. That is the only magic in a can that has ever worked for me.
