LX 188 Surging Issue

Hey I have a LX188 with the 17hp Kawasaki (water cooled) engine. This thing hunts terrible.
When the unit runs there is no gas at all in the fuel filter. None. And it never fills up. All linkages are free to move no binding.
All new fuel line so no leaks and still no fuel in filter. Solenoid works on the carb.
If I remove the fuel line between the pump and carb. gas will blast out of the hose from the pump side. ** then gas will fill the filter up like right now** once you attach the hose again and start the engine filter is then emptied once again.
What in the heck is going on with that? I would think there should be gas in the filter.

I looked in the carb and it was spotless. I cleaned it anyway.

Thanks

You could try running it with the gas cap loose or off. It may be getting air locked. The gas cap should have an air hole somewhere. Maybe its plugged.

Take the filter out of there. A lawn mower filter will not flow enough fuel to keep a garden tractor running.

when you say surges does it do all time or mid range. when you apply choke does it change. was this filter on it before and ran fine or did you change one. Theres alot of fuel filters out there some for fuel pumps some are not. lets keep this simple, do you have fuel coming out of the tank all time, because there is a filter in the tank on 90% of the units out there. you said you replaced fuel line did you replace the filter to then or what. when did this start. let me know exactly what it was like before the isssue

Is it a deere filter? Some of my filters also never fill up. I run about 10 mowers in summer and found out that doesn't matter if it is the correct filter. If it runs better with the choke on clean and rebuild carb it is running lean. You could a also pull your sparck plug and read that to see how your fuel mixture is.

First off thanks for the reply. He it goes with the details.
1) Air filter is very clean. Even removed proble is the same.
2) Fuel filter is good.
3) Fuel line all new.
4) Fuel tank has no filter, just a pickup tube.
5) Fuel Solenoid works.
6) Carb is spotless, I took it apart and cleaned it any way.
7) fuel flows from pump into a can, I tested it by turning over the engine.
8) I tested pump to see if it would fill the bowl and it did.
9) Fuel cap is vented.
10) Now I did notice that when I removed the fuel line between the pump and carb, I had a blast of gas out of the line. There was pressure there. AND the fuel filter then filled with gas. Now I reattached the fuel line from pump to carb. The tractor ran great for about 2 to 3 minutes. Then the surge was back and the filter was empty again. At this point I had done nothing to the carburetor. This really says to me that the fuel transfer is an issue.

you say the fuel filter is good is this what ws on it or haveyouchanged it since youhave had this isssue.so now you are saying the unit is surgeing or is it just completely dieing. if it is surgeing is it staying running and at high or low rpm. Or is this unit just dieing out. there is a difference. state tank has fuel pickup is ther not a screen on it. otherwise take the fuel line filter off see what you got. you do have the filter on the correct way also don't you. they go ony one way. how long has it been since this unit ran fine,or did it just start this.

Well while searching the forums and the internet for answers to my LX188 Surging issue, I found a lot of issues like mine however nobody ever announced what they found to be the problem. I would like to say it took a new carburetor to cure my surging issue.
