JD 214 engine serial number question

My 1986 JD 214 is in need of a replacement engine. I have located a vendor that does complete remanufacturing of the engine but needs specific serial number of the previous engine in the tractor. The serial number on the label on the shroud is not readable. The tractor serial number is definitely a 1986 model. Where can I locate the engine serial numbers for JD 214 tractors made in 1986? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

The serial number and specification were on a metallic tag glued to the blower housing.

He is probably asking for the specification number rather than the serial number. A replacement engine would have to have the same specification number as your engine. The Kohler engines had a lot of options for crankshaft PTO end size and length, and there were lots of different oil pans. Those options were coded into the specification number.

The serial number doesn't tell you very much.
I think you would be better off with someone that will overhaul the engine you have. A so-called complete remanufacture is seldom required.
