My hydrostatic tranny stopped working yesterday. Won't go forward or backword, just a moaning noise. Oil level full. Any ideas what may be wrong?? Any comments appreciated. Thanks

Hi,
It is probably easiest to remove the fender deck, to check it out, which is fairly easy. Easy to change, disconnect tension spring for traction drive belt, and remove nut and washer that holds pulley.

The belt is good, oil is full and no smell. I guess at this point I will have to look at the pully splines. I looked up there, but could not see much. Do you have to remove the deck to even see up there? If it is the pully, how hard is it to get off and replace? Thanks

check the pulley on the input shaft of the transmission, i"ve seen more than one that the splines have stripped out.

Drive belt ok? Cooling fins clean? Does the oil smell "bad" ?
