My problem I am having is if you stop mowing after a while (Usually an hour or so)my lawnmower will not start till it cools down, not sure what causes this. Battery light also will come on and go off during use, battery shows 12.5 volts when you stop. Any suggestions.

When you say tractor won't start till it cools down,do you mean starter motor won't crank eng or starter motor cranks eng,but no spark at plug?

First thing, check that connections at pos/neg terminal of battery are CLEAN/TIGHT also check neg cable end where it connects to eng block/chassis is CLEAN/TIGHT,if cables ok,next time problem happens, with ign key in stop/off position, take a jumper from red cable on starter motor sol to coil term on sol,if starter doesn't engage/crank eng, then problem in sol or starter motor,IF starter engages/cranks eng, then problem in safety sw's,ign sw,relays or wiring harness on tractor,if this is the case,do a goggle search for john deere gt262+ wiring diagram, click on link to justanswer.com(3rd link)read entire post, click on 3rd diagram in post & print, this is a wiring diag for tractor,if problem in wiring this will help you troubleshoot,if you don't have tools/elect knowledge to troubleshoot, get help from someone who has OR leave to local jd dealer/mower shop to sort out/repair.

Check the valve clearance on the Kawasaki engine. The decompression release may not be working because of WIDE valve clearance.

You need to use a volt meter to see if battery voltage is getting to starter when trying to start the engine. Is there a starter solenoid? Hal
