Ariens YT1138

I am looking for information on the carburetor for my son's Ariens YT1138. I believe it is a Tecumseh engine and I have found a lot of different references to their engines and carbs online but nothing that looks like the one on his tractor.
It has a very long body which forms almost a right angle where the intake manifold bolts on to the engine. The intake manifold is part of the carb, it's all one casting.
I'm also wondering, if parts or a replacement carb can't be found if i could adapt another carb from a similar size engine to work. I'm not worried about the governor.

Eng is probably a briggs 11hp,clean off flywheel cover & with a bright light look around edges of cover, you'll probably find mod/type & sn stamped in same, goto parts tree to lookup eng & see if it matches your's,after that try local dealer/ebay for another carb or a rebuild kit for same.

All Ariens YT1138 I"ve seen used Briggs and Stratton 11hp engines. By the description of your carb, it sounds like a Briggs carb for them also.

The carb may still be available new from Briggs and Stratton.

Repair kits, floats, etc most definitely are available from Briggs and Stratton, as well as many aftermarket sources. You"ll need the model, type and code numbers to be sure you get the correct parts. Although a good dealer can match thme up without problem.

Engine model, type and code numbers are usually stamped right above the head bolts and sparkplug on the flywheel cover, or they are on the top of that cover, on the flat surface near the flywheel opening. Some also had the numbers stamped on the side of the cover, usually the flat side, not the rounded part.

You may have to clean off some rust and dirt and use a bright flashlight to see the numbers well.

Great, thanks for that. I'll pull the flywheel cover when I get a chance and see what I can find. I thought it looked like a briggs and stratton at first but something made me think otherwise. I guess it's also possible that someone else had replaced the engine but trying to find some numbers would be the best way.

Thanks to your help I found the information I need and I now have parts on order to rebuild the carburetor.
It is a 11hp Briggs and Stratton.
