Row Buster

I just picked up kind of an odd looking garden tiller, called a Row Buster. It was made by Carter bros. mfg, inc, of Brundidge, Ala. I emailed them today, and got a message that they had a fire this summer, but would try to get back to me. The Row Buster is a one wheel (6-12, R-1), powered by a Briggs 5HP gear reduced motor. The wheel pushes a single cultivator sweep, with a small gauge wheel, out front. Anybody ever see one of these, or have a manual laying about? I plan on getting it running this winter, as all it is missing is the gas tank, and the flow through carburetor.

Muchos Gracious, Gary, I thought I had hit a dead end, there. I looked up Carter Bros, and It looks like their whole manufacturing plant burned down in July of 2010. Hebrew lightning is suspected, so I suspect they are out of the picture for ever. How did you find Maxim, and do you know if they are still in business? Thanks, Dave

Maxim Mfg. is still in business. At one time they discontinued the Plow Hoss but now I think have started to mfg. them again. I have seen their new equipment displays in the past. I think they take up a lot of previous mfg's equipment, get their paperwork in order, and start mfging lookalikes. They were mfging a lookalike Snapper Comet rear eng. rider. I have a unit called a mule and it looks like the plow hoss too. Their is also one labeled Wizard on it which was sold through True Value stores.I contacted Maxim here a while back and they had parts as I needed a belt cover.

These tractors started out as the Power Wheel, built by Edko manufacuring of Des Moines Iowa. They built a line of three differnt tractor models from at least 1974 to 1978, when the company was purchased by Ariens. Ariens kept one model of tiller/tractor and it was feature in there 1979 catolog. The other two must by been sold off to third partys, with the single wheeled model popping up over the last few yrs under differnt names and companys. The orginal maker also made the tractors for Western Auto under there Wizard brand.

I emailed Claude Fisackery, over at Maxim, last night, and he replied back that his co started in 1963, said there was another company(Beaver MFG) producing them earlier, in NC. They are out of business now. Must be something good about the design, if demand keeps bringin them back!

I have one of these I picked it up at an auction every thing is there except the motor I need a Manuel for this one also. If you find any info please pass it on good luck Thanks Bobby
