Help identifying vintage lawn tractor

Hi, I found this in the crawl space of a house I recently rehabbed and sold. I thought it was a home made go-cart someone made out of a lawn mower, but then someone more knowledgable informed me it was an old rider mower. I'm wondering how old it is and if it might be worth something. It has a 3HP Briggs and Stratton motor. The only other markings I can find are a sticker behind the seat that says "For Modelers" with a drawing of a guy riding a mower on a little globe. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

The foot pedal controls the tension on drive belt by moving one of the ... can't think of the word... Um, I guess it woudl be called one of the wheels that the belt turns on. It seems if you don't push the foot pedal there is no tensino on the belt so it doesn't drive the rear wheels to move. Push the foot pedal and that puts tension on the belt, makes all the gears turn and drives the rear wheels.

It's an early 60's MTD-built, 24" riding mower.

The handle bars are installed upside down.

I own the same rider and mine was sold as a Firestone.

Look on the deck, in the area where your left foot would set while riding. That's where mine has it's markings.

I have some literature on this model, if you're interested.

Can't beleive they could really sell things like this even when new! Looks like a push mower with a seat. Guess it REALLY would be a "Riding" mower then,.....sheeeesh! Thumbs down! Remove engine, get $1 for scrap. That's My vote!

grumpy: I guess that's why I thought it was a homemade go-cart. It really does look like a push mower that someone put a frame and a seat on.

I have no plans to scrap it yet, but I don't have room to hold onto it either. Any suggestions on how to find a new home for her? Anyone out there in the Chicago area who has interest?

Jay: What is MTD? A manufacturing company?

MTD stands for Modern Tool and Die. They are the current manufacturer of most riding and push mowers sold in this country. The also build Cub Cadet riders.

I have no idea why "glgrumpy" would bother to make that comment. Obviously it's not what HE collects, so it must be completely worthless. Which is exactly how his opinion should be valued....WORTHLESS.

It's a cool little rider with it's tubular frame. Take it a show, ride it around and you'll see how much attention it gets....people LOVE them!

Little older mowers like that are becoming very collectable and if its some of the name brands might be worth a considerable amount.Worth at least $100 as a shot in the dark and maybe right much more. With anything like that just got to find the person looking for it for their collection.

I did a search on eBay when I was trying to identify this thing and I didn't find anything that even resembled this. I think that is a good indicator of the demand. I'll have to find just the right person. Maybe I'll try an ad on Craig's list and see if I get any interest. At this point I'm not looking to make any money on it. I just like to find a good home for it. I agree that it is a pretty neat little mower and it would be a shame to scrap it. But if I can't find a new home for it by spring then that is what I'll have to do.

Once again, if there is anyone out there on this list who is interested, please contact me.

I hope this works....I'm attempting to upload a pic of mine to this message.

This was taken the day I purchased my 1964 Firestone and brought it home. This pic was uploaded to the Garden Tractor photo section a long time ago....and it's much clearer.
