Gravely 16G mower deck

I just bought a Gravely 16G Lawn Tractor. Absolutely the best constructed lawn mower I have ever owned.
Now-- a question. I have a lot of work in rough ground (not mowed) and I would like to have more ground clearance, for the deck. When the deck is in "raised" position (transport) the gauge wheels are still on the ground. I have seen photos of these machines and it apppears that it is in the design of the lifting mechanism.
I know that I can remove the deck but was wondering if this is, in fact, the way it should be, is it out of adjustment or can it be modified to lift completely?

The deck is real easy to remove, 2 cotter pins up front, swivel the latches forward till the rack drops, a third cotter pin on the lift linkage, back over the deck, and reach up, and twist on the release for the pto shaft. Lots more clearance without it. Have you found the 2 hidden grease fittings on your tractor? Gravely always hides a couple, to mess with your mind!

I don't know if I have or not. Where are they?

On an 816, which I believe is an older version of our 16G, the front axle pivot pin had one above the pin, you had to know it was there, you couldn't see it, you had to feel it. Others have said there is another one for the steering rack, in a similar bad place to see. I know on my deck, the spindle fittings were UNDERNEATH! They changed that later, to top of the spindle bolt, but man that was a southerly pain, to scrape off grass, to grease a spindle!
