Has anyone used a hydro unit(300 John Deere or large Bolens type) to drive other equipment? I know I would need an oil tank/filter. What is the output RPM with an input of 3000 RPM?

The pump and motor are identical, so at the full speed setting, output speed = input speed - slight losses.

With the output of the hydro @ engine speed, about 3600 RPM's a 300 will move about 6 to 6.5 MPH. Wonder what the circumference of the tires is... knowing that, it wouldn't be too hard to come up with a close approximation of the reduction ratio of the rear end.

I have a couple of the rear ends in various states of disassembly... if I get a chance in the next couple of days I'll count the teeth involved in the two reductions that take place after the actual hydro.

The standard tires on those tractors are a nominal 23x10.50x12 so the circumference would be about 3.14x23=72.25 inches.

If I did the (quick) math correctly, it seems the tires would rotate about 95 RPM's @ 6.5 MPH.

3600/95 = about a 38:1 reduction in the geartrain after the hydro.

How many decimal points did I fumble here?
