1855 Massey Onan Engine bearings

replaced the entire engine in this 1855 Massey garden tractor. It only lasted half as long as the original. (about 7 years) Now the crankshaft bearing on the flywheel side is totally worn out. I think its because on this tractor there is a pair of belts on the stub adapter that bolts to the flywheel pulling the crankshaft downwards. Just wondering if the original onan engine for a Massey would have had a tougher bearing than the the engine we put in? Any body ever heard of something like that? (engine is a P218G)

I have never seen a p/n for more than one bearing, so I think they are all the same. Maybe belt tension may have some bearing on this. Where they tensioned like the were on the original???
