JD 300 Clutch

I previously posted about how tight to crank down the bolts on the clutch on my JD 300 and received good advice. However, I'm having another issue. Is there a correct procedure for tightening these? I can get the proper clearance when I tighten the 4 bolts on the plate. But then when I tighten the bolt on the front of the pulley that goes in the shaft it messes up my clearance.
Any advice?

Thanks.

Tighten the bolt in the end of the crankshaft FIRST, then adjust the blade brake.

If things get goofy doing it THAT way you MAY have a bad bearing or be missing a spacer between parts of the clutch.

I assume you are talking about the air gap for
the clutch. Why would you adjust and then
tighten crankshaft bolt? I have a couple of
318s for about 20 years. John Deere has a good
website for parts schematics. I would check to
see if something is missing.
