1958 major stuck in low range

I have a major that my grandfather bought new that
has set for a time unfortunately, the pto engagement
seal was out and leaked most of the trans fluid out,
which let it rust at some point. Fixed the leak and
refilled the trans, but now I can't shift from low to
high. My question is where do I need to start taking
it apart to get to the high low gearing to see what
the trouble is

Two places, first the gear selector plate which has the oil level and the clutch pivot on it. If you then look up towards the top of the gearbox you should see a hooked link from the lever into a rod that goes into the gearbox. Try a little gentle pressure with a bar and see if you can move things.

Failing that, go to the other side of the tractor and take off the pulley plate (or belt pulley if fitted). Check that the nut holding the pulley drive gear onto the shaft has not come off and is jamming the gear movement.

You may then have to remove the fuel tank and remove the hi/low selector if it still does not free off.

Thanks, that gives me a starting point anyway. My brother has an IT manual that I can barrow to aid also.
