Hi we get dad a fordson major it has a petrol eng ,the tank has 2 caps so it was kero to we found a plat with 1301206 on it and on eng H28V dose any one now what year it is.

H28V is June 28 1954 the date that part was cast. You will find similar numbers on each cast part. 1301206
confirms that as that number comes from the end of June 1954.

Those tractors were not that popular as the diesel one was a much easier tractor to run and would start in
most weathers but I love mine and would not part with her. She is a September 1952, one of the first year of
production.

Make very certain that there are no cracks in the manifold, they run very hot with the manifold and exhaust
pipe glowing red if you are working them. This causes the cast manifold metal to crystallize and it becomes
impossible to weld, believe me, I and many others have tried it even with special rods. New manifolds or
second hand good ones are like rocking horse manure. One local man near me paid ?1000.00 for one two years
ago.

The distributor cap is also unobtainable, we have searched world wide and not found too many.

They will run happily on Kerosene central heating oil or a mixture of diesel and petrol, around 75% diesel
25% petrol plus a quart of ATF every now and again.

I have had mine for 40 years and still use her for spraying, ploughing and taking to shows.

Hi Henty, We come over from England to Victoria around every two years to meet up with the Fordson Tractor Club of Australia, You might like to put in your diary The 100 Years of Fordson Tractors exhibition at the Deniliquin Vintage Tractor Show in September next year, we will be there. You might also like to contact the club via Barry and Dawn Milsom or one of the other members. www.fordsonaustralia.com. I can highly recommend the food and cakes at their meetings !!!!

The engine number is the same as the number you have found on the plate and is stamped onto the flange just behind the starter motor.

Gauges are from the left, Oil pressure, temperature and at the bottom Ammeter and ignition/light switch.

In the middle of the panel should be two pull knobs with cables attached, the left one goes to the starter solenoid which is a cable pull type similar to that used on the old British cars. This is mounted just behind the starter under the battery box. The second knob and cable goes to the choke.

Another site you may like to visit is www.fordsontractorpages.nl YT allows me to publish this link because we help each other out at times.
