Im selling a fordson major in ohio need advice

Im selling a Fordson Major for a freind & don't know much about em. He wants me to try & sell for 2500. Its on Cincinnati Craigslist. thanks.

I use a 1955 Fordson Major Diesel to farm about 15 acres along with a Ford 850 and a Ford 5000. It can pull a 3 bottom 14" plow effectively in my hoytville clay soil (kind of a loamy clay). The Hydraulics are not live, so the PTO has to be running to use the 3 point hitch, that's the worst of it in my opinion. This changed with the PowerMajor in 1958, I think (I'm going from memory of books I've read, so not terribly precise) and is also less of an issue if the tractor has the raised PTO attachment that has a separate on-off lever that let's the PTO output shaft to be turned on and off from behind the seat while the PTO keeps running through the transmission and rearend.

It starts easy but I've had the injection pump rebuilt and the head rebuilt. The valves weren't changed at the time however because it had the "early" style valves that I couldn't find online. They are available now, however, through agriline in the UK.

I've been told that some people like Majors for tractor tractor pulling because the rear ends are built tough. That's some information, hopefully you find it useful.
