Faster way to add oil to 61 Dexta steering gear.

I want to change oil in my steering gear because I had problems with water once before. The only way to fill it that I am aware of is through the center of the steering wheel which is a slow process. Is there a faster way?

I heated 90w gear oil to 250F and poured it through the vent hole

I had old pot, hot plate, infra thermometer and a good funnel took about 10 minutes

are the dextas across the pond different to over here in the UK
we have a dexta bought second hand by my late father in 64 or 65 and according to the hand book about an egg cup full of engine oil should be tipped in the centre of steering wheel every engine oil change but I do it more often.. I would like to find a gasoline dexta or major

Hi it's a shame you are not in Canada, as shipping would probably kill it to the u.k from Manitoba. I got a 1952 ish fairly straight for it's age gas e1a style major i'd let go for $2000 Canadian or a bit more if i did the crank and bearings, it's low on oil pressure at the moment, but runs and drives, there is a loader on it I want to keep though for a diesel tractor. once in a while gas Dextas turn up in Ontario as well.

I need to do a complete oil change because water has leaked into my steering box. I am sure a small amount in the steering wheel cap would be fine for a normal top off. I filled it that way once before, but it was a lengthy process.

Hi Derwen please send me a message using the email link thats in the bottom of the right hand corner of the messages I posted here. I'll get back to you as we are now breaking forum rules a bit and getting away from the original topic now to.
