Fordson New Major Vs. Fordson Power Major

Hi All, Thank you in advance. I posted this under a separate topic and was guided over here.

I recently purchased either a Fordson Power Major or a Fordson New Major. I am extremely new to this. This is my very first tractor I have purchased.

Does anyone out there happen to know how I can determine what Year or atleast type of tractor this is? The serial number plate is unreadable and therefore I cannot look this up that way. Essentially I really only need to know if this is a Power Major or a new Major, from what I gather so that I can order parts and so on. Any help would be appreciated.

Glad to see you figured it out.
Good luck! Were you given any indication of the year of your tractor! You can look up the serial # location and look through the Fordson pictures to find one that looks the same as yours too.

Yeah, the photos I find between a Major and Power Major appear to look the same. The Super major changed and the E27N (I believe) looked different as well. I found the serial number plate, however it is completely smooth.

That looks like a Fordson Major not a Power Major. If you cannot read a number on the plate, look under No.1 injector or it will be
stamped on the flange where the engine joins the gearbox, behind the starter.

Majors were built form 1952 to 1958, the diesel was around 40 hp. Power Majors were built from 1958 to 1960 and was around 50 hp,
Super Majors were built from 1960, they had draft control and dif. lock plus disc brakes. From 1960 to 1963 they were 50 hp. The
New Performance Super Major, sold as the Ford 5000 in the US,was 55 hp and was built from 1963 to September 1964.

I cannot locate any Numbers below the Injectors or where the engine block meets the transmission. There is a F stamped below the injector closest to the Seat. There is K26V molded in the side of the Gear Case. There is E1ADKN stamped in the rear where the fill hole is.

I will try to locate any other numbers I can find and will post what I find.

Thanks...

On the Axle there is what appears to be E27N30ICB.

On the engine block between the Generator and Exhaust Manifold there appears to be the Numbers/letters- K16V.

Do any of these numbers help to date this tractor?

Some E27N parts were carried over to the New Major and later. They kept the same part numbers.
Such as front axles, such as wheel weights.

Okay, so since the Motor is stamped K16V and the Transmission is stamped K26V, I am assuming it would be safe to say that this tractor would be a 1954 New Major Diesel.

Engine- K16V- August 16 1954
Transmission- K26V- August 26 1954

Would I be correct is saying this?

Thank you All. I found the serial number on the starter mounting plate. Looks like I have a 1954 New Major.
