6 cyl petrol truck engine

Hi guys. I have just purchased an early '60's Thames Trader (normal control) that is fitted with a 6cyl petrol engine. 300cu in.
Is this what they call a 508E engine?
Where can I find the engine serial number?
Any help really appreciated. Thanks.

It could be. Does it have an external drive to injector pump, or is the pump mounted to a flange on
the front timing cover? I don't think the engine type is in the serial number. It should be stamped
on the cylinder block close to the front, just under the head-gasket on the right-hand side, looking forward.

Found the engine number. Right hand side top of block, on flat metal, behind distributor cap.
It is "658EB582".
Can anyone decipher year? Thanks.

This is my 1953 engine. The lump behind the distributer
is the governor, which you might not have on a truck engine
