Brush hogging last night. .temp got close to 220 and antifreeze coming out of overflow.. - I was mowing heavy grass, and small brush. I gave it a rest .. about 30-40 mins later. . I checked the antifreeze. . it was down 1/2 gallon. . I filled it back up .. and then took it easy. .but the temp is still up close to 210 .. I saw a little bit of drips of antifreeze come out of overflow pipe.. but I was able to finish the job. .

I know my brush hog blades need to be replaced or sharpened. . but still . .why is it getting so hot? what to check.
Fan belt is tight.. the radiator to me looks clean on the outside..

I had a problem last week where I lost power running a small baler.. I changed the fuel filter.. and that problem went away..

I purchased the tractor last year. I put maybe 10 hours on it last year- light brush hogging... this year I've pushed it harder. .raked and baled around 160 bales and brush hogged maybe 3 acres..

I know this sounds very basic, but make sure that rad is clean. That rad has VERY fine fins and will plug up very quickly, especially when bush-hogging. Blow out from the rear towards the front of the rad.

I did just that. . I couldn't see through it!. . plus I changed out the antifreeze and replaced the thermostat with a napa thm70.
I also installed a overflow, in case it overheated again. . I wouldn't be loosing the antifreeze and polluting the ground.

What a difference it made .. runs right around 190 under load..
