1956 Fordson Major MarkI

I just bought a Fordson Major Mark I,1956 vintage, with a John Deere backhoe and front loader.

The old girl runs good, with very little smoke, only on start up.

I am looking for servicing information for the backhoe-loader.

I have one cylinder on the 'hoe leaking down, not bad,but I would like to rebuilt it if parts are still available.

The fuel injector side panel has had a oiler cup and small spring loaded cap installed, and I would like to know the proper type of oil for this.
Any information on servicing this tractor or backhoe will be greatly and sincerely appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Correction to my previous post. The front loader is a Sherman 54E.100,not John deere.
The BackHoe is a John Deere stock number 2345.

As far as the injection pump goes you do not put oil in unless you are not using the machine for a long period, then you would use Ensis Fluid which is a r>preservative. If you are working the tractor the diesel oil will lubricate it as some is allowed to pass the pumping elements to lubricate the cams and bearings.

Another correction:The metal tag on the backhoe is very faded and hard to read, just stenciled, not stamped in the plate.I rubbed a little oil on the plate, and it looks like John Deere was the dealer that sold or installed the backhoe/front loader, and the number was their stock number. It appears the both the front loader and backhoe are made by Sherman.

Thanks for the info.
Do you know the working hydraulic pressure for the Sherman Backhoe? It has a separate pump located beside the gearbox, probably PTO powered.
The front loader has a small pump direct drive from crankshaftat front of engine.
Thanks in advance for all help with this.

Boy! This backhoe/loader really had me going.
It had 2 tags on it,the first one I found was barely legible, and it said John Deere.
It was on the loader,on the side arm.
I later found another data plate,on the backhoe, and it said Sherman.
I decided that the first tag, which was a badly faded decal, was the dealer that sold and installed the loader/backhoe.
My final conclusion was that it is a Sherman.
Does anyone have any information about the fluid capacities of this assembly?
The front loader has a separate reservoir and pump driven off of crankshaft.
The backhoe section has a pto driven pump, and extremely large hydraulic hoses, about 1 3/4 inch diameter.
Does anyone know the pressure on this system?
Thanks in advance for having the patience to help this newbe to the Fordon world.
