Dexta Hydralock

Have a Fordson Dexta that has a fuel issue. It had sat for a year or more, we got it running, but noticed the oil was over full. Changed the oil and thought we would narrow down the culprit between the lift pump and the injection pump. We ran it for a while with no change in the oil level. We parked it overnight, go to start it today and it is hydralocked. Oil level in pan is still good, but we pulled an injector and there is fuel on top of the piston. What could cause this?? Injectors pump or return?
(It cranks good and carries good oil pressure with a manual gauge).

Hi Just wondering what it has on for a cold start device. I think originally they might of had a glow plug and a diesel line to put fuel into the intake manifold, to create heat for cold starts when the glow buttons pressed. It could be if thats fitted it's leaking fuel into the intake manifold from that system. Then it runs down an open inlet valve to sit on top of the piston, when it stands for a bit of time. Over time the fuel could creep down into the oil pan as well.
To check it if it is fitted. Remove the fuel line and fitting to the intake with it outside the manifold see if fuel drips out when it's standing. It's been over 20 years since I worked on a Dexta but I'm pretty sure the cold start is there from memory..
Regards Robert

Robert has it right on the cold start leaking, it was a common problem back in the day. So common in fact that Ford fitted a tap in the line on the intake manifold that had to be turned off after the tractor had been started. Check on the intake manifold where the pipe goes in and see if your tractor has a tap.
