Fordson Power Major

Question for you Fordson Tractor whiz's out there: Can a 1960 Fordson Power Major be convert into a Super Major on the engine to give the added horsepower. I came across that for a couple a year they made 220CID engine into a 4 cyl super major late 1960 to the end of 1962 before the six cyl models came out. Also I am looking for a new connecting rod for my rebuild.

The Power Major and the Super Major had the same engine up to 1963 when the New Performance Super Major came out. The difference then was improved breathing by redesign of
the cylinder head. There were modifications along the way like a single bolt fixing cam shaft to replace the three bolt fixing one with the horse shoe thrust washer and
from mid 1962 the Minimec pump and the FL head were added, but the rest of the engine stayed the same.

The changes between a Super and a NP Super were mainly in the hydraulics, PTO and gear ratios.

There is no such beast as a factory made six cylinder Super, a lot of these are owner mods by fitting the 590E truck or industrial engine.

Thanks for the info. Do you know where there are used cranks and connecting rods for this engine. I do know I will have to replace crank since she had the rod knock and then thru the rod.
