supermajor problem

I have a super major and I checked the water level the other day and saw oil in it is the a head gasket... anyone else have this problem before I have the head off now and am waiting on gaskets just seeing if it's common on these older diesels

It has been years (30 plus) but if I remember correctly the deck height on the sleeves has to be correct, or it will leak like a head gasket. You need someone with more knowledge and experience than I have. I remember replacing the head gasket only and it worked for a while, but the culprit was the deck height of the sleeves, and it was soon leaking again.

Retread your post and thought about that engine has wet sleeves. The sleeves have orings on the top and bottom that can leak. You might be looking at a complete teardown. You need to get a repair manual, and hopefully find someone that is proficient in repairing these engines.

Try here www.fordsontractorpages.nl or fordsontractorpages.com.

Sleeve height can be checked with a straight edge across the outer part of the sleeve and a feeler gauge. You should get 0.002" to 0.004"

Thanks for jumping in there, Majorman. I got to thinking it was in 73 or 74 since I was last in one of those engines. Guess it has been 40 plus years. I knew sleeve height was important on those, but I couldn't remember how to check. Again, Thanks
