Dexta gas/petrol - Super Dexta ?

Hello,

Well, here you can see my ignorance, but I have for a long time heard that the Dexta had a gas/petrol engine as an option. What I did not know, until recently, was that they used the Standard 87 mm engine for it.
For some reason, I have no idea why, but I thought both the Dexta and the Super Dexta had gas/petrol engines as an option. Today I tried to find some infor about it, but can not find out if they did, or if it was only the Dexta that had that option. Anyway, if the Super Dexta could be had with a gas/petrol engine, what engine was that ?

Same engine as far as I know. The engine was used in Massey Fergusons, but the starter was on the opposite side. There weren't very many sold; mostly for where they wanted quietness, or for where it was too cold to start diesels.

So, you are saying that the Super Dexta came with the Standard 87 mm engine also ?

You see, the Ferguson 35 had two types of the 87 mm engine, they had one with about 6:1 in compression ratio, same as the Dexta, with around 32 horsepower. Then a little later, it came with I think 6.6:1 in compression and about 37 or 38 horsepower. Are you familiar with this ?

The petrol Dexta was built from 1960 to 1964, no petrol Super Dextas were built.

As you say the engine was a Standard Industrial unit and fitted by Turner Manufacturing for Ford. Only around 4000 tractors were built and sold in Scandinavia and Canada although some found their way into the USA.

I have been collecting data on these tractors for some years now and have found the majority in Australia and New Zealand. They were not sold here in England although a number are finding their way back. I own one that spent its working life in New Zealand.

Pictures of my petrol Dexta at work and play this year. She was the only petrol Dexta at the Blue Force Show in June 2014, among around 1000 other Fords and Fordsons.[/img]

The middle picture is of two petrol Dextas at plough near Ludlow in Shropshire. One is Dotty, (my tractor).

The engine is rated at 37 HP according to the leaflets and books I have here.

My e-mail is open and I would be glad of the engine number, serial number and any casting date codes you can find to add to the archive I am building.
