Posting this message in case anyone ever searches for info. on replacing a starter on the dexta. I've read several older posts which were very helpful but wanted to post my efforts. I put new brushes on my dexta's original starter when I did a rebuild several years ago(8 years?)or so. The starter worked good(or so i thought). but the last year its been a fight to get her to turn over. The cable to the starter would get very warm. I thought the battery was just weak(no alternator or jenny), i just charged up every couple of months for cranking. anyway, finally got fed up and bought the new starter (non-original). installed, 15 minutes later, i used the oringinal pos cable bolted together from older solenoid, and just jumped a 'wire' to touch to the cable to for my temporary switch.
well, it is unbelievable!! Instant starting is an understatement! I would not have believed it would have made 'that' much of a difference, but the difference is amazing. i may now be able to go a year between charges!
thanks for those who post here,
david
